Information we collect
When you use our contact form
We collect your name, email address, the subject and your message. These are sent by email to
When you donate
We keep the details needed to process your donation, such as your name, contact details, the amount and any Gift Aid declaration. We keep Gift Aid records for as long as HMRC requires. We use GoCardless to process your Direct Debit and bank payments. More information on how GoCardless processes your personal data and your data protection rights, including your right to object, is available at gocardless.com/legal/privacy/. GoCardless collects your bank details on its own secure pages; we do not see or keep them.
Weekly Eruv status by WhatsApp
If you donate £50 or more a year, we add your mobile number to our WhatsApp group so that we can send you the Eruv status each week. Other members of the group can see your number. WhatsApp is run by Meta, which handles your number under its own privacy policy. We remove your number from the group when you ask us to, or when you stop donating.
When you browse the website
- Essential cookie: one cookie that makes the website work (a session cookie). It is deleted when you close your browser. This does not need your permission.
- Google Analytics (only if you accept): counts visits and shows us which pages are used, so we can improve the website. Google may process this information outside the UK. We do not use it to identify you.
- Eruv map: the map on our Eruv Map page uses map images from OpenStreetMap and map software from Cloudflare's cdnjs service. To show the map, your browser connects to them, which shares your internet (IP) address with them. Neither sets cookies.
You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Eruv status and Shabbat times
The Eruv status on our pages comes from eruv.co.uk, and the Shabbat times come from the United Synagogue website. Our website fetches this information itself. Your browser does not contact those websites, and none of your information is passed to them.
Why we use your information
We use your information only to answer your enquiries, to manage donations and Gift Aid, to send the weekly Eruv status, and, with your permission, to understand how the website is used. We do not sell your information or use it for marketing.
Our legal reasons for using your information
- Answering your enquiries: our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us.
- Donations and Gift Aid: to process your donation, and to meet our legal obligations, including HMRC's Gift Aid record-keeping rules.
- Weekly Eruv status by WhatsApp: your consent, which you give when you ask to receive it. You can withdraw it at any time by asking us to remove you.
- Google Analytics: your consent, given through the cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time using Cookie settings.
- Showing the Eruv map: our legitimate interest in showing visitors the Eruv boundary.
- Donations: to process your donation, GoCardless also acts under its own legal reasons, set out in its privacy notice.
- Protecting the contact form from spam: our legitimate interest in keeping the form free of spam.
- Keeping the website secure: our legitimate interest in protecting the website and the people who use it.
Keeping the website secure
Our web host, 123 Reg, keeps standard records of visits to the website, including visitors' internet (IP) addresses, to run and protect it. Our website also keeps a record of changes made by the people who manage it, without IP addresses, and deletes it after 30 days.
Information processed outside the UK
Our website and email are hosted by 123 Reg, which may use service providers outside the UK under the UK's approved International Data Transfer Agreement. Google (for Analytics, only if you accept) and WhatsApp (Meta) may process information in the United States. Both companies are certified under the UK-US "data bridge", which the UK government recognises as giving your information an adequate level of protection. Cloudflare, which provides the map software and the contact form spam check, may handle your internet address in the United States and is also certified under the data bridge.
Who we share it with
- 123 Reg, which hosts our website and our email.
- WhatsApp (Meta), for the weekly Eruv status messages.
- Google, for Analytics, only if you accept.
- GoCardless, which processes donations.
- OpenStreetMap and Cloudflare, which provide the Eruv map, and Cloudflare, which checks contact form messages for spam (technical information only).
